A wildlife haven


More than half the island comprises the Arabian Wildlife Park, one of the region’s largest wildlife reserves, housing over 17,000 free-roaming animals, including Arabian oryx, gazelles, giraffes, hyenas, and cheetahs. Visitors can enjoy 4x4 nature and wildlife safaris in customized vehicles accompanied by expert guides. The island’s state-of-the-art stables offer a variety of equestrian activities.


Jebel Hafit Desert Park


The Jebel Hafit Desert Park occupies a nine-kilometer stretch at the base of the craggy Jebel Hafit mountain, Abu Dhabi's largest peak.


An ancient heritage site


Situated in the foothills are over 500 ancient tombs, known as the Jebel Hafit Tombs, dating back 5,000 years. These structures demonstrate the presence of Bronze Age civilizations in the UAE. Excavations revealed ceramic vessels and copper artifacts, showcasing the significance of maritime trade across the Arabian Gulf during that era.


Exploring the park


Visitors can explore the park’s majestic natural surroundings on a mountain bike, horse, or camel while discovering fascinating archaeological and historical remains. Recognized in 2011 as part of the World Heritage Site of Al Ain, the park is a treasure trove of history and nature.


Al Wathba Wetland Reserve


Established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is the first area in Abu Dhabi designated for protection by law.


A haven for biodiversity


Originally a coastal salt flat, the reserve has evolved into natural and man-made lakes supporting many of Abu Dhabi's species. Home to an average of 4,000 flamingos during autumn and spring, the reserve also hosts over 250 bird species, 37 plant species, and a variety of aquatic life.


The reserve features two self-guided walking trails (1.5 km and 3 km) and a bird-watching hide to observe the flamingos in their natural habitat. Recognized by the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas in 2018, Al Wathba Wetland Reserve remains a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.
