David Raya, Arsenal's trusted goalkeeper, has been awarded the prestigious Golden Glove for the 2023/2024 Premier League season.

His remarkable achievement came after keeping 15 clean sheets across 30 league matches, solidifying his place among the best in English football.

As noted on Premierleague.com, Raya's success marks a significant milestone, making him the third goalkeeper from Arsenal to win the Golden Glove. Previous winners include Wojciech Szczesny in the 2013/14 season and Petr Cech in 2015/16. Moreover, Raya also joins a select group of Spanish goalkeepers to have earned the coveted award, including David De Gea, who won it in the 2017/18 and 2022/23 seasons, and Pepe Reina, who won it three times consecutively from 2005/06 to 2007/08.

According to Transfermarkt, David Raya is a product of Barcelona, Spain, and currently plays for Arsenal in the Premier League, with his contract expiring on June 30, 2024. Raya has also represented the Spanish national team, earning four caps.

Born in Barcelona on September 15, 1995, Raya’s football journey began at the local Cornella Youth Academy. In July 2012, he moved to England, signing with Blackburn Rovers, where he initially spent time on loan at Southport in 2014. Over his time with Blackburn, Raya made 108 senior appearances and played a key role in helping the club achieve promotion to the Championship, as reported by Arsenal.com.

In July 2019, Raya made a move to Brentford FC, where he began to shine. His debut season with Brentford was not only a personal breakthrough but also allowed him to showcase his skills on a larger stage. As a deep-lying playmaker, Raya made 49 appearances in his first season and earned the EFL Golden Glove after keeping 16 clean sheets in the Sky Championship.

Raya’s contributions were crucial in Brentford’s 2020-2021 season. He made 48 appearances and helped secure 17 clean sheets across all competitions. Most notably, he played a pivotal role in Brentford’s victory over Swansea City in the Championship play-off final, ensuring their promotion to the Premier League. This promotion was especially meaningful as it marked Brentford’s return to the top flight of English football after a 74-year absence.

Brentford celebrated their return to the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Arsenal. Raya made a strong start to the 2021-2022 Premier League season, registering three clean sheets in the first nine matches. Overall, Raya made 13 appearances that season, with Brentford finishing in 13th place.

He also played a key role in Brentford’s impressive ninth-place finish in the Premier League the following season, registering 20 clean sheets in 62 Premier League appearances, ranking second in clean sheets in Brentford’s history behind Joe Crozier.

One of Raya's standout qualities is his exceptional command of the goal area and his ability to read the opposition's movements. He is also highly skilled in making close-range saves and handling one-on-one situations with attackers.

In August 2023, Raya joined Arsenal on loan. According to Mirror, Arsenal paid £3 million for his loan deal and have the option to make the move permanent for an additional $27 million. Raya had recently signed a two-year contract extension with Brentford, with the club holding an option for an additional 12 months.

Raya made his debut for Arsenal in a 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League group stage on September 20, 2023. It was a standout performance, with Raya receiving a rating of 7.7, according to Footballcritic.com.

As noted on Arsenal.com, Raya played a crucial role in helping Arsenal progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League, making an important save against Galeno during a penalty shootout victory over Porto, following Leandro Trossard’s decisive goal.

On the international stage, Raya has represented Spain since March 2022, when he featured in their 2-1 victory over Albania. He was later selected for Spain’s squad in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and played an important role in helping the Spanish national team win the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
